Today we bring to you our very own story- the story behind the Character Building Society of the HITEC .
Young people across the world spend their university years partying, socializing and generally just living.
And let’s be honest; who doesn’t want to build up their social circle? Doesn’t ‘All work and no play’ make Jack a dull boy? What better time to live your life to the max than when your body is young and capable, your heart beats away powerfully and you have the desire to do adventurous, albeit silly things?
But what happens when the youth in a community start seeking something more permanent, something more worthy to live for? What if the partying moves over to the side lines, while a nobler cause takes the path? What happens when a young university student decides that he/she wants to serve humanity and not just his/her own self?
“We shall tell you their story as it really was.
They were young men who believed in their Lord,
and on whom We bestowed further guidance.
We strengthened their hearts, when they rose up and declared,
‘Our Lord is the Lord of the Heavens and the earth…’”
Quran: Al Kahf, 13-14.
The world changes. This is what makes the world go ‘round.
At school and college you basically learn everything from the arts, to the sciences (and all that comes in between). Every kind of knowledge under the sun is imparted through those who can teach, to those who want to learn.
In the process, however, we tend to leave a certain ‘something’ behind. This little something is neglected throughout our high school and college years, and may become evident through an occasional word of advice from a concerned teacher or parent. It is only when we see the ‘something’ manifest itself- in the form of a corrupt individual, perhaps- that we feel the gap in our educational curriculum.
This ‘something’ is the character of the individual.
Where the schooling system stays mum (such as when it comes to building up moral values in a person), we step in. The Character Building Society believes that it holds the key to the essence of all humanity and community spirit; by working on the very ideology and foundations of a person’s actions.
Sounds confusing? Let’s take a common example. Exams are an integral part of school, college and university life. From the start of their educational careers, children- and later teenagers- are told not to cheat. Despite this, every year at least a handful of students are caught cheating and made to face ‘consequences’- in almost every university and college across the country.
Why is it that even responsible, mature 23 year olds find it hard to comply to this No-Cheat rule? Until a person doesn’t internalise a value (e.g. think of cheating as something morally wrong), that individual has no genuine reason to ‘do the right thing’. Until a person doesn’t learn how to differentiate between right and wrong, the only thing keeping him/her from hurting other people at his/her own gain will be the idea of punishment for non-compliance to a rule.
And if the gains from breaking a rule are greater than the risk involved (i.e. getting caught and being punished), there is nothing stopping that individual from doing as he/she pleases.
As a result? We have a country full of corrupt, self-obsessed individuals who are morally bereft of any real goodness.

By working on the attitudes and mind-set of each and every willing member, and by treating each person as an individual, the Character Building Society aims to bring about a brighter future for the country. A future where the literate people in the society are truly literate and have sound moral upbringing. A future where each individual strives to bring about peace and justice… Yes, that’s us.
The Character Building Society.
Join hands with the Character Building Society today and take that first step to a better, brighter future Insha’Allah.
